Leggo My Ego!
A major obstacle to your personal and spiritual growth is the all illusive ego. More specifically one's identification and attachment to it. It can block, hinder, tell you you can't, delude, and trick you into unsound decisions and actions not ultimately in your best interest, muck up your original intent, and ultimately affect your happiness.
So What Is This Ego Thing?The important definition of the word to remember here is not the Freudian definition of it (Id, Ego,Super-ego). More-so its that identification of self or ego which prevents you(and us all for that matter),created through your personal identification of your physical body and the world around you, which prevents or impedes us all from our true nature. This perception is received gained, analyzed, and processed all through our 5 senses senses(sight, sound, touch, taste, and olfactory), thus creating an illusionary identification with what "reality" is and isn't. Well that was a mouthful and I try to keep things succinct....hmm, was that my ego getting in the way?
Furthermore, that you are he and we are she and we are all together... I am the eggman, I am the walrus. (Sorry Mr. Lennon as I may have muffed up your lyrics). God is holding all that we perceive as real through His thought and will; just like our abilities when we ourselves dream.
The Big LieThe wrench He has thrown into the mix is known by many names. Sin, maya, illusion, evil, are all accurate. It's that element which "tricks" us in our understanding, searching for, and discovering our true nature. It's the "deception" or "temptation" to seek and fall victim to false senses of reality.It's that which keep us bound to our senses and overindulging in them in an effort for happiness. These are the obstacles which take us in the opposite direction of our true lesson and ultimate goal and can in Christian terms be called sin, or in Eastern terms called maya, or illusion. The ability to see and act under this higher understanding of oneness to each other is Holy. I personally struggle with this as it is difficult. Acting superior or cold is natural, but not wise. Don't ever be a push over mind you, just try to understand without the need to explain and simply know better. If you and your special someone both understand this, you will have no such problems and such worldly experiences will be diffused and end in a peaceful manner as a couple. That is what Jesus meant by saying "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do". Set the example even if it's the expense of your pride or dare I say ego. It's cause for reflection if you and your girl or guy are not on this page together.
Don't Be Like So Many Others...Our great society is more about me, me, me , money and power, success materially and influence and all at any expense and it's sad. We grow further from this more God-like frame of mind that we are all connected and are all "Sons of God", in favor of this more shallow existence. It's really hard to realize that "jerk' on the highway that cuts you off is, or that "person giving you crap" for no reason on from your part is, or that women basically insulting you by hitting on your man right in your presence (and vice-versa) is, indeed you and you him or her. Primal instincts of knowing this person disrespecting you provokes primal emotions of anger and vindication if not retaliation is natural but must be fought off. I told my best friend just tonight that you can't fault a second grader for not understand everything as an eigth grader does. They don't know any better, instead be aware, try not to judge, just nudge.
Science is slowly catching up with what the great spiritual texts and teachers have always known. that we are energy, soul, sons of God. Well, leaving out the important spiritual connotations, we're energy. The different states of consciousness are

The Purpose One More Time?The purpose for all of us is to "find our way back". To shed the delusive nature of our ego and what the senses bombard us with and to not just acknowledge but know we are spirit. The key, or secret if you will is balance. To live in the world but not be a part of it. To balance the responsibilities you are given here to the people who count on you with your efforts towards knowing your higher, more spiritual, true self of spirit. There is no more worthwhile effort. The fact your here is a great sign. You were gently nudged here so stick with me. In a spiritual sense ... again (and sorry), but the Christian tenant of surrendering oneself to God's will, and not your own is incredibly accurate and valid. However, it needs to be explored further. Faith, in and of itself without the ability to really "listen" is lacking, yet still vital.
Ah, in a metaphysical sense, it's that identification with your physical body. A false sense that it's "who you are" and that which keeps you from your ability to not only know and understand, but "realize" your true nature of omnipresent and "true self" as a Son of God.
